How do I find HGSE and other Harvard dissertations?

  • Search for them in HOLLIS. (HarvardKey login required to access some online full text.)

How do I know if Harvard dissertations are available online? 

  • For any Harvard dissertation in HOLLIS, look for an “online access” or "Try ProQuest dissertations" link to retrieve online access if available. 
  • As of 2015, HGSE dissertations are available in electronic format only through ProQuest and/or DASH.

How do I access HGSE dissertations that have not been digitized?

  • Print copies are available through 2014 and are stored off-site at the Harvard Depository. Use the "Request Pick Up" link on the HOLLIS record to request delivery to a Harvard library.

How do I find dissertations and theses from other universities?

Which dissertations can I expect to find online in full text? 

How do I access dissertations from other institutions that have not been digitized?

  • If you have access to the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global database through another institution, search there for dissertations from Harvard and other universities. Full text of most graduate dissertations & theses 1997-present (a few earlier) is available. If you do not have access, you may be able to purchase a dissertation through Dissertations Express
