How do I find HGSE and other Harvard dissertations?
- Search for them in HOLLIS. (HarvardKey login required to access some online full text.)
How do I know if Harvard dissertations are available online?
- For any Harvard dissertation in HOLLIS, look for an “online access” or "Try ProQuest dissertations" link to retrieve online access if available.
- As of 2015, HGSE dissertations are available in electronic format only through ProQuest and/or DASH.
How do I access HGSE dissertations that have not been digitized?
- Print copies are available through 2014 and are stored off-site at the Harvard Depository. Use the "Request Pick Up" link on the HOLLIS record to request delivery to a Harvard library.
How do I find dissertations and theses from other universities?
- Search in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global (HarvardKey login required)
Which dissertations can I expect to find online in full text?
- Full text of most graduate dissertations & theses 1997-present (a few earlier) will be found in ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global (HarvardKey login required)
How do I access dissertations from other institutions that have not been digitized?
- Submit an interlibrary loan request to borrow a print copy OR
- Purchase a copy directly through ProQuest Dissertations Express.

- If you have access to the ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Global database through another institution, search there for dissertations from Harvard and other universities. Full text of most graduate dissertations & theses 1997-present (a few earlier) is available. If you do not have access, you may be able to purchase a dissertation through Dissertations Express.
- If a dissertation is not available online:
- Check your local public or academic library to see if you can borrow it through interlibrary loan OR
- Purchase a copy directly through ProQuest Dissertations Express OR
- Order PDFs of most Harvard theses and dissertations from Harvard Imaging Services.
